The Nile ( Arab : نهر النيل , Nahr al-Nil ) Is a river North African 6,671 km long. It was longest river in the world , in fact the longest, from recent tests, proved to be the Amazon. The the Nile has two major tributaries, the White Nile and Blue Nile . The latter contributes a greater supply of water, fertile silt, but the first is the longest. The White Nile was born in the region of Great Lakes 's central Africa, with the sources that go up to Rwanda , then flows north and crosses the Tanzania the Lake Victoria, the ' Uganda and southern Sudan. The Blue Nile has its source in hand Lake Tana in Ethiopia , and flows through the south-eastern Sudan. The two rivers meet and merge near the Sudanese capital Khartoum . The northern section of the river flows almost entirely through the desert, from Sudan to ' Egypt, a country whose civilization has depended on the river since ancient times and more remote. Most of the Egyptian population and all its cities (with the exception of those located along the coast) are found along the Nile valley north of Aswan , and almost all the historical sites and cultural ' Ancient Egypt found along the riverbanks.
