Syria - Hama - Norie

Hama is a city in central Syria, about 150 km south of Aleppo. Crossed by the Orontes River, Hama (who approaches the 200,000 inhabitants) dates back to the Hittites. He became an important center of Aramaic to the early second millennium BC, as to be mentioned in the Bible under the name of Hamath. For Hama
you stop to admire the "Norie", giant water wheels, which, from the Seleucid, raise the water to lead Orontes with special aerial pipelines to homes in the city.
La Noria consists of a large wheel with a diameter of several meters (20 mile) float with the bottom of a river or canal. Blades are mounted on the wheel by which the noria is put in rotation by the water current, and buckets or cups that are filled with water. When the buckets arrive at the top of the wheel empty their contents into a collection tank that connects with a transport channel built on top of an arch. The water is then delivered to homes.
